The Impact of Technology on Education

Technology has changed the way the world works and the way that we do things like communicate, travel, build, and even learn. Education has continued to evolve to utilize new technology in an effort to enhance the learning experience and make it more accessible for students. According to a study by MidAmerica Nazarene University, 66% of teachers surveyed said that using technology in the classroom makes students more productive and more intellectually stimulated.

Educational technology includes things like interactive displays/whiteboards (like SMART boards), podcasts, learning software, augmented reality, web portals, and even commonplace devices like computers, laptops, and tablets. There are also more advanced types of educational technology used for certain programs in college like 3D printing, VR headsets, and more. These different tools allow students to learn in ways that weren’t previously possible and provide many benefits, like learning from home, interacting with the material, more collaborating, specialized learning, more engaging content, and improved efficiency and productivity.

Another major impact that technology has had on education is the accessibility it provides. Now, people all over the world can receive an education as long as they have a computer and internet access. With options like online courses, video lectures, and other instructional resources, technology has not just changed the way people learn, but it’s also changed the number of people who can learn.

Furthermore, the accessibility that technology provides also impacts students currently receiving an education as they have access to additional learning resources like guides, instructional videos, and online textbooks even when their real teacher is not available. Educational technology has also impacted the affordability of receiving an education as online courses are generally cheaper than in-person tuition and don’t require extra costs like transportation, stationery supplies, or even expensive textbooks.

The Elumis Foundation believes that no kid should be left in the dark. Our goal is to bring light to families and children around the world who don’t have access to electricity through solar kits. With the renewable power of the sun, we can change the lives of people all around the world by giving them opportunities they wouldn’t have without access to electricity, like being able to use electricity to study at night or power electrical devices used for learning. Find out how you can get involved and help us make a difference today!

About the Elumis Foundation

The Elumis Foundation is a certified non-profit organization that was created in 2018 by siblings Eva and Michael Sakellakis (ages 15 and 13), looking to make a difference. Their father, who has his own successful solar business Elumis, helped and inspired them to form the foundation. Together they formed a Non-Profit 501(c)3 organization. This allows all donations to be tax-deductible by the donors. 100% of all donations received will fund the distribution of solar kits to be given to families who do not have electricity in impoverished areas of the world.

Elumis’ goal is to bring light to families and kids without that privilege through solar kits. These solar kits are powered through solar panels and can provide light and electricity for a family for up to 24 continuous hours. The Foundation has already made its first donation of 1000 solar kits in Vietnam and plans to distribute more kits to third-world countries throughout Africa, South East Asia, Central America, and India. Our goal is to distribute at least 100,000 kits to families in need.
